TILT AND TURN WINDOWS

What are tilt and turn windows?

They are windows that have two possibilities of pivot axis for their opening: one vertically (like normal and ordinary casement windows) and the other horizontally.

In its vertical axis, the window can be opened completely, usually reaching an opening of 180º. While in its horizontal axis, the window simply tilts slightly (its maximum degree of horizontal opening will depend on the characteristics of the installed mechanism and the dimensions of the window leaf itself). This second opening modality is mainly used when you want to ventilate or air out the house without the need to fully open the window.

Generally, the choice of opening type is configured from a single handle: where you can choose to open in one way or another, with a simple turn of the wrist.

Advantages & Disadvantages

Advantages of tilt and turn windows:
· Greater versatility
· High level of acoustic and thermal insulation
· Tight seal between frame and leaf
· Allows cleaning of the outer face from inside the building
· Allows regulation of ventilation level

In certain cases, tilt and turn windows can also have a second opening possibility by turning on the vertical axis, through the system called micro-ventilation, which opens only a few millimeters for controlled room ventilation.

Disadvantages of tilt and turn windows:
· The cost of this type of windows is slightly higher compared to casement windows, because the pivot mechanism is more complex.
· This type of windows requires a slightly larger frame, resulting in a slightly smaller glass surface.
· The quality of its operating system must be carefully checked, as it is subjected to greater stresses due to its greater weight.
